From Fox Foto to Kate Brown Photography

I am thrilled to share that I am in the process of restoring the historic Fox Foto building to serve as the new home for my photography studio, Kate Brown Photography. This revitalization project aims to breathe new life into downtown Elko, enhancing its charm and beauty while preserving its rich history. I can’t wait to showcase my work in this beautifully restored space and help contribute to the revival of our beloved downtown area.

This blog is ever-changing as I research new information and we turn the corner in the restoration process.

We will be repainting the faded letters of Fox Foto in the alleyway to honor its legacy and ensure that its presence continues to be felt. We hope this act can serve as a reminder of the creativity of the area, connecting the past with the present.

The building, constructed in 1919, has a rich history reflected in its occupants and their contributions, notably through the Nevada Library Cooperative's digitization of Elko school yearbooks.

The People's Market advertised in yearbooks from 1929 to 1953, while Bert Fox established multiple photography studios, culminating in Fox Foto on Idaho Street, with advertisements ranging from 1958 to 1966. After Bert Fox sold the studio in 1968, it rebranded to Photos by Clark, with ads appearing until 1985.

The studio later changed hands to Roche Bush (1985-1995) and finally Don Lemmons, who transformed it into Elko Coin & Currency in 1996.
