If you had told me years ago that I would one day own a photography studio in a building that's been part of Elko's history for over a century, I probably wouldn't have believed you.
Photography started as a creative outlet, but it quickly became so much more than taking beautiful pictures.
I realized early on that the photos people cherish most aren't always the perfectly posed ones. They're the ones that make them feel something years later. The laugh your dad always had. The way your toddler reached for your hand. The confidence you didn't realize was there until you saw yourself through someone else's eyes.
That's what I fell in love with.
Today, Kate Brown Photography isn't just about creating beautiful images. It's about creating an experience where you can simply show up and know you're taken care of.
One of the things I hear most often is, "I'm awkward in front of the camera."
I get it. Most people aren't models. They aren't sure where to put their hands, how to stand, or what expression to make. That's why my job is so much more than pressing the shutter. I guide you every step of the way—from planning your session and choosing outfits to posing you naturally so you never have to wonder what to do.
Why Boudoir Changed Everything
While I photograph weddings, families, seniors, and motherhood sessions, boudoir has become incredibly close to my heart.
I've watched women walk into my studio nervous, apologizing for the things they dislike about themselves. Then, by the end of the session, they're laughing, standing taller, and seeing themselves differently.
It's never about becoming someone else.
It's about rediscovering the woman you've always been.
Every boudoir session includes professional hair and makeup, access to my carefully curated client closet, and a warm, private environment where you can simply enjoy the experience. My goal isn't to create someone Instagram-perfect. It's to create images that remind you of your own strength, beauty, and confidence.
Those moments are why I do what I do.
More Than Just Photos
Whether I'm documenting a wedding day, creating timeless family portraits, photographing a high school senior, or helping a business owner update their headshots, I'm always thinking beyond the image itself.
I'm thinking about the memories your children will look back on.
The confidence boost you'll feel every time you walk past your portrait hanging on the wall.
The heirloom album your grandchildren will one day flip through.
Digital files are wonderful, but photographs deserve to be held, displayed, and passed down.
A Studio with a Story
One of my greatest joys has been restoring my studio at 443 Idaho Street in downtown Elko.
The building was once Fox Foto, a place that served generations of families in our community. As we renovated, we worked hard to preserve as much of its original character as possible because I believe stories matter—and this building has plenty of them.
Now I get to continue that legacy, welcoming new families, couples, business owners, and women through the same doors to create the next chapter of their stories.
Why I Still Love What I Do
Photography has given me the privilege of meeting incredible people during some of life's biggest milestones.
I've photographed growing families, weddings, anniversaries, newborns, graduating seniors, and women choosing themselves for the first time in years.
Every session reminds me why I started.
Because someday these photographs won't just be pictures.
They'll be proof that you were here. That you loved deeply. That your family grew. That you laughed, celebrated, persevered, and lived a beautiful life.
If I can give someone that gift—images that become more valuable with every passing year—then I'm exactly where I'm meant to be.
And that's why I became a photographer.
